La Porte County TRIAD is helping La Porte County residents to “light the way” during an emergency. The Home Safety Beacon Light Program assists emergency personnel to quickly locate a home in an event of a crisis, day or night. It has proven to save precious seconds in identifying a scene without delay.
An adaptor is added to your light bulb for your front porch. Under normal circumstances, it works just like a normal light; however, in an emergency, simply turn your switch off and on twice leaving it on the third time and your outdoor porch light instantly becomes a flashing signal for help. When activated, your flashing porch light can alert fire, police and ambulance personnel to quickly locate your home. It can also alert neighbors in an event of an emergency situation. When flashing at night it reportedly visible up to a mile and during daylight from several blocks away.
It’s ideal for any home, especially for those with seniors, children, widowed or disabled. Most importantly, it means that once you’ve called for help, you don’t have to leave your home to go outside to signal for your location. The Home Safety Beacon Light Program is not a substitute for dialing 911.
La Porte County TRIAD is offering these adaptors at no charge to any La Porte County resident, 65 years of age and older or disabled.
