Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer for Project Lifesaver!
The LaPorte County TRIAD Lifesaver Project is offering LaPorte County residents with a tendency to wander, young or old, an opportunity to remain safer in their home environment and allowing their families’ a little peace of mind while keeping them at home.
Project Lifesaver currently is coordinating 6 participants, who have been assessed, accepted and are wearing the radio-signal bracelet. These bracelets require their batteries to be changed once a month. Currently, we have a shortage of trained volunteers to do the initial assessment and to address new and emergency participants.
Therefore, in order for Project Lifesaver to continue to maintain quality service while expanding coverage to all LaPorte County Communities, the need for additional volunteers has become critical.
Project Lifesaver needs the following assistance from the Community:
1) Volunteers trained or experienced in doing initial assessments of residents with a wandering spirit. The assessment takes only an hour and a half. By recruiting enough volunteers, we would rotate assessors and they would be asked to do only one assessment during a particular month. (4 hour training by law enforcement & TRIAD is a requirement)
2) Volunteers to replace batteries in bracelets once a month, requiring only about 1 hour or less for each participant including travel time. (1 hour on the job training is required)
Receive enormous gratification for little time spent in helping someone remain safe in their home!
